Born in St. Petersburg in 1930.
Studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Graduated from the Academy in 1857 and started his career as a free artist.
The area in which his talent revealed to the fullest extent was satirical graphics.
Lebedev made his debut in 1858 in the pages of the fashion magazine “Veselchak.” Subsequently, he collaborated with many satirical journals: “Splint”, “Illustrated Newspaper”, “Bee”, “Horizon”, “Niva”, “Fragments”, “Dragonfly”.
Lebedev was well known as the author of humorous portraits of celebrities – writers, artists, publishers, public figures.
As an illustrator he turned to the works of A. S. Pushkin, M. Yu. Lermontov, I. A. Krylov, N. V. Gogol, A. N. Ostrovsky, N. A. Nekrasov and M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin.
