Canon is a general law, rule, principle, or criterion by which something is judged.
Oxford Living Dictionaries
In the caricature the concept of “canon” is not widely used, but this does not mean that one cannot speak of canons in relation to this genre. It is possible to trace how canons in the manner of drawing have changed over at least the last century: from the academic accuracy and realistic manner oof the late 19th – early 20th centuries canons have changed towards greater grotesque, conventionality, and eventually obtained modern forms, allowing any manner of drawing (surrealistic, poster, “cartoon”, etc.)
